So I am sure you have been following Paul's Instagram and learning just how much he dislikes white kitchens. He's being a bit dramatic, but isn't he always. White kitchens will always be a thing, they have been around for-ev-er an the classic kitchen go to. Paul isn't really saying that he hates white kitchens, but as a designer who has designed over 30 kitchens in the last three years he is ready for something a little more risky.
As you can see in these photos you don't have to paint your cabinets a crazy color to add a little more interest. It's almost expected that either your kitchen cabinets are a medium wood stain or painted white, so if you have something even slightly different it is unique. For the more traditional kitchen you can go towards cream, yellow or a light caramel, which works perfectly. Paul used a lighter version of Thatched Roof, by Dunn Edwards for the traditional kitchen above. Typically traditional cabinets have more detail in the doors and drawers which is highlighted by these lighter options.
To go more towards the contemporary kitchen Paul had these cabinets lacquered in a light gray, Miner's Dust, from Dunn Edwards. The slab doors and ultra smooth finish give it that Italian modern look. Because this house is on a hillside there are no windows in the kitchen so Paul stuck with a lighter color that wouldn't feel too drab.
Of course going dark is also an option, definitely for the people with a bold personality. A dark gray or blue look great on simple cabinets as they create a more masculine feeling. Having high ceilings is a plus, but not always an option. Ask your designer to do photoshop or a rendering of your kitchen before committing if the dark color scares you.
Do you have a kitchen that needs an overhaul? We would be happy to make something just as interesting for you!
